COVID-19 : MOVEMENT TOWARD COMMUNISM IS REQUIRED

The world has been brought to a virtual halt. Many have lost their means of earning a living. Many are facing the loss of their homes. Some will lose their small businesses.

No one knows what the future will bring & capitalism has no answer.

We are approaching the Covid cliff edge.

What lies at the bottom of this pandemic, as we reach the bottom of the drop, what will our world look like and will it bear any resemblance to previous normality?

In the psychological sphere I suspect this period of fear and isolation will weigh heavily on hearts for a very long time to come... perhaps longer than our lifetimes. The anxiety is not entirely conscious, not entirely rational and has reached a deep place in our sub-conscious for most.

When people experience a deeply traumatic incident it can create permanent negative emotions. A case in point in recent years was when a school group witnessed the sinking of a ship with many lives lost. It was found those children suffered permanent negative changes to their emotions which caused them to be morose and unable to smile long after the event, even years afterwards.

We have all been traumatized and the longer the crisis continues the deeper that trauma will be felt. The lightness we felt, even in the face of the problems that arose personally or globally, were the usual, the normal and surmountable or ignorable... this crisis is so prolonged and so potentially deadly that much of the joy of life has evaporated.

Even those with strong religious beliefs must surely have been affected. Those who worship a god or goddess surely feel to some extent that they have been abandoned by their deity.

Many businesses and means of employment have ground to a halt. Some are kept afloat for now. But for how long will those who have provided loans or mortgages wait before demanding payment or closure and repossession? Already hotels in the United States are beginning to permanently close their doors and hand the keys over to the banks to whom they are no longer able to make payments.

Millions of Americans are now without either jobs or health insurance as these are tied inextricably together in a country where politicians on both sides of the aisle refuse them universal health care that most other nations have as a standard human right.

Bankruptcies are rising and will rise ever-further.

Soup kitchens, homeless shelters and food banks will soon be overwhelmed.

For now it is containable. States are subsidizing the income loss of millions. But for how long is this sustainable?

We stand as a species on the edge of chaos as the ground shifts below our feet and still greater threats loom.

Western nations who have dispensed with much of their state planning compared with communist and socialist societies are completely unable to get a permanent grip on the situation and cannot coordinate activities and standards of behavior effectively.

Such pandemics reveal the inadequacies of capitalism and the strengths of the greater cohesion found in communist and socialist countries with their ability to move fast, create needed infrastructure and control behavior to suit these hours of crisis.

China acted fast and was able to control and defeat Covid-19. Central planning was vital and the ability to direct energy in the most needful place and release all necessary resources in terms of finance and manpower.

The USA showed the world how totally unable it was to deal with Covid-19 in stark comparison to China. The United Kingdom was equally haphazard and undisciplined.

This does not bode well for western nations when the much greater threats from climate change arrive. If the same patterns are repeated they will be totally unable to cope and their populations will be largely left to their own devices as a panic created by knowledge of their states weaknesses hits hard and all potential for communal state safety measures will fail.

To be ready for what is to come western states must change. They must replicate the Chinese systems as best they can, like it or not. To not do so will put their populations at imminent risk of losing not only their homes and livelihoods but the entire societal structure of their lives and in the chaos lose all chance of the sustainable and stable modes of survival they are used to.

We remain as a species on the cliff edge. It is not inevitable that we fall into the abyss. But to survive and prosper in the face of this pandemic, those to come, and the greater threat of climate change catastrophe we must begin to cooperate, to unify and to move to greater state planning and control. This is unpalatable to many in the West. In the East it has proven beneficial and successful, both financially and in the face of Covid-19.

Capitalism as it is now practiced has failed the West spectacularly as will increasingly be seen as the financial effects of the pandemic become ever clearer. Its elites must swallow their pride and arrogance and move swiftly leftwards if all is not to be completely lost in future years.

Movement toward communism is required.
