The elites of Britain and the USA are acting as if the West is at war with Russia.
The war being waged also includes Russia’s allies, China, Iran, Syria, Cuba and Venezuela.
One of the main targets of enmity is quite clearly the Syrian president and the army loyal to him. (The majority in Syria who live within the shelter of the Syrian army are not brought into consideration, only those perceived as "victims" of Assad and his “fiendish” army and the “dastardly” Russians.)
Who else is included in the "enemy" that the people of Airstrip One, sorry... the West, are fighting?
Iran is on the sidelines currently. Hezbollah forces? Certainly. Those on the 9/11 hit list that Wesley Clark saw more or less. The US Neocon agenda targets.
Who are the somebodies leading the charge? Essentially the elites who run the West, the main political leaders, many of their members of parliament, senators and congressmen plus almost unanimously all mainstream mass media, press editors and journalists and presumably all owners where these are corporate entities. They are all part of the war effort.
These entities are clearly in war mode. They evince no balance, for them there is only a hateful enemy without redeeming factors committing horrendous war crimes, atrocities and generally evil, sub-human behavior. The Nazis would readily recognize the demonization techniques being used. And Orwell would not be in the least surprised at what is going on.
What I am sure would shock and horrify Orwell however is that so many of our populations have still not become immune (after all the hard lessons taught) the obvious lies, the distortions, the state propaganda, manufacturing of consent and the general susceptibility to be herded as sheep to agree the slaughter of others far away.
Demonization is used on a daily basis to maintain the attention of the human sheep who bleat their approval in response. A wall-to-wall blanket coverage of negative reports concerning the “crimes” of plotters far away are paraded with countless hacks and their editors enthusiastically producing the material needed.
The nonsense about Putin and Russia being instrumental in causing Trump to be elected president is such obvious nonsense, completely devoid of anything that could be categorized as hard evidence. Various intelligence agencies guess this, that and the other while using qualifying words that reveal they know nothing solid. Some crazy Facebook ads that could only confuse Americans rather than meaningfully direct someone toward Trump are sited. Not only are these intelligence agencies paid to lie they can't help themselves but despise a man like Trump who has no respect for them. They want the establishment elites back, the Democrats, and are willing to perjury themselves or as near as, for them. No collusion was shown. That just leaves less that $100k of idiotic ads. The whole thing is a gigantic and extremely expensive waste of time.
Though the Democrats got a useful meme out of it with which to tar Trump. The intelligence agencies bent over backwards impugning their own integrity (such as it is) in the process. As George Carlin was fond of saying, "It's all bullshit folks, and it's bad for ya."
The Democrats and the liberal establishment are clearly unconcerned if a hot war occurs with Russia. Their sole intent is to bash the orange-faced enemy that humiliated the woman destined to be president. This is about as irresponsible as politics get at this level. Risking millions upon millions of deaths for the sake of revenge and momentary political power? Words fail to describe exactly how disgusting the whole tawdry episode of Russiagate has been.
In future years historians will pour over the materials generated by Russiagate and link the entire episode with the very similar vile episode regarding 'The Red Scare' with Joe McCarthy at the forefront in the Fifties.
Clearly the entire liberal establishment of the western world has engaged (and continues to engage) in war with Russia and her allies, endangering the mental and potentially the physical health of every American, Russian and many others in the process.
