What is propaganda?

Whatever your personal definition, one vital element must always be present. Whatever the message it seeks to convey, it must always be from one side only attacking the side you wish to denigrate or weaken.

We are told that in the West that we are deluged by Russian propaganda. Could someone tell me where to find it? They say RT (Russia Today) is Russian propaganda and that could be debated as it doesn’t conform to any traditional definition I know of. Admittedly it does tend to feature documentaries (by westerners predominantly) that show some of the downsides of life in the West. If you wish to call that propaganda, okay, but I can't agree.

Tell me where else to look...

Perhaps you will say social media is full of it. Very well. I have been on various social media sites for two decades now and yes, I found opinions that were pro-Russian during that time. Not that many as a proportion to the plethora of other opinions however and as far as I could tell these were opinions by people like me, individuals with no obvious links to the Russian state. I myself have absolutely none. If opinions genuinely expressed are to be termed propaganda then I hold up my hand. I'm certainly guilty of that.

What about the propaganda “factories” of Russia, those who produced those amazingly successful Facebook ads (about $90k of them) that swung the 2016 presidential election in Trump’s favor? I mean, have you seen any of them? I assume you know they don’t mention Trump and feature wild and wonderful (and extremely idiotic) memes that have no bearing on any election anytime anywhere. Yes, of course we can see how this $90k of madcap memes beat $200M of ads by the supporters of Hillary Clinton. Can’t we?

In the Orwellian, or Alice in Wonderland of “If I say it, it’s true” many can and do, and repeat it as known and obvious fact.

Leaving all of the above aside for a moment let’s see if we can detect propaganda a little closer to home.

I would ask you to cast your mind back to the myriad reports you have either seen or read on Vladimir Putin and Russia and mentally gauge how many of them offered what you might call a balanced perspective. How many featured some ameliorating feature other than a straight accusation, negative opinion or any narrative that was not framed as a criticism? Do you recall any such article, program or tweet?

If we accept what the BBC, CNN, MSNBC or virtually all mainstream media news outlets across the entire western world have told us both Vladimir Putin and the entire Russian state are rotten to the core in absolute terms entirely without any redeeming features. If this is so then why does the International Criminal Court at The Hague not issue a warrant for Putin’s arrest and why does the United Nations not condemn the Russian Federation as a rogue state?

Why do a great many world leaders meet with Vladimir Putin, engage in talks with him and give every appearance of respecting his views while arranging new trading agreements with Russia?  
Is the framing of Vladimir Putin and the Russian state fair? Is it balanced? Does it indicate what might be described as an impeccably even-handed and impartial approach? Is there no trace of bias? Is the framing neutral, with the pros and cons meticulously detailed so that the reader or viewer can come to a reasonably well informed opinion?

Or is all we hear a constant litany of negative views where a critical slant permeates each and every article, view and perspective?

Is it any wonder that after hearing a decade and a half at least of this kind of framing that it now tends to permeate the entire western world as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

And this mind you after these very same mainstream media news outlets were found guilty of spreading much the same narratives about other regime change targets which were later discovered to be half-truths, disinformation and lies. It is quite amazing that westerners find it easy to once again stare into their television sets or avidly read the same outlets that so adeptly gulled them so very recently with such catastrophic loss of life, chaos, destruction and human misery across the Middle East. Some hundred thousand human beings at the very least died due to those lies and the fact that so many in the West believed them. (Never forget the fact that even so, no politician or media staff were made to pay any penalty never mind face jail for manslaughter or murder.)

It has become a “fact” that Russia is attacking western democracy. This “fact” has emerged from the very sources that duped westerners time after time in recent years in order to manufacture consent for the West’s desire to initiate regime change within their chosen targets. Those sources who have been shown to generate and distribute lies are the CIA, MI5/MI6, U.S. and UK politicians (predominantly) and virtually all of corporate and state media across the entire western world and the allies of its ruling elites.

All this is a matter of record. However, in this western world devoted to the techniques delineated in George Orwell’s ‘1984‘ none of this matters. It can be discarded as irrelevant, not worthy of taking into consideration as only the moment and the currently required narrative is important.

The elites of our western world see their influence waning. They consider themselves and their ability to dominate all other nations as the sole guarantor of ‘The Free World’ against those devils elsewhere whose rise means the collapse of the world into anarchy. They believe they are exceptional and that their power to manipulate world events and administer punishment to wrong-doers must not be eclipsed. 

They are willing to kill anyone in their way to ensure this. They are willing to undermine nations with sanctions or even to invade and occupy them to ensure it. They are willing to support and use whatever insurrectionists or terrorists within any target nation to ensure it. They are willing to use any means whatsoever, unethical, immoral or otherwise they consider necessary to ensure it.

They are willing to permeate the entire western world with their propaganda to ensure it.

So Russia, China, Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua... it is well after time to get your act together and deliver the propaganda these western elite deceivers say already exists. Whatever puny propaganda you are generating now needs massively to be ramped up and programs generated to encourage all your citizens to join the endeavor to rebut and challenge the lies being generated constantly by western elites and their brainwashed populations. It is time to put the boot on the other foot and start kicking.

It is time for a massive degree of propaganda payback.
