U.S. EXCEPTIONALISM & THE GEOPOLITICS OF CAUSE AND EFFECT

(The justification of evil made easy)

Put yourself in their position.

You are the current men and women selected to guard and care for what is claimed to be the most perfect society that ever existed or ever will exist.

Over the span of your life you have been encouraged to believe this as it is all you have heard your whole life long. In addition, as one of the most privileged members of the society in question it has been your predominant experience of it.

You have lived a life where everyone you have ever met believed the same as you and aren’t there innumerable institutions, ostensibly noble, which reflect these beliefs and continually support them? You have lived in the upper echelons of a society continually telling itself it lives according to a degree of ennobling self-sacrifice and dedication to the highest ethical and moral precepts known to humankind.

This sense of moral, ethical and systemic superiority and of therefore being exceptional on the world stage creates a powerful mythology which brooks no opposition in most minds. It reinforces powerful emotions in the soul of pride and a sense of dignity that override all objectivity. This subjective belief system constantly stimulates endorphins in every pituitary gland exposed to it, especially of those who already live lives quite isolated from any major negative factors.

A self-fulfilling cycle takes place from which there is no incentive at all to escape. Those within this cycle tend therefore to be the most forceful in propelling the entire belief system and are generally the most successful within the nation’s political system. This perpetual, self-reinforcing system creates an airtight barrier to factors such as objective self-analysis or to any possibility of questioning the system in any fundamental way. In fact any aspect of the system which performs as such an all-pervasive bubble of pleasure-stimulating belief around all within it is de facto a sacrosanct principle that is held to be beyond question.

Arising from all of the above comes a sense of heroic mission to bring the epitome of perfection you are experiencing which stems from a unique heritage of nobility, righteousness, fairness, tolerance and exemplary ideals and which you have invested total belief in as the natural birthright and destiny of humankind.

You then become the most dangerous mechanism for extreme imposition of change on the planet. This while at the same time being completely immune to notions of impropriety, illegality or irresponsibility. All consequences, good and bad flow from your innate sense of your own goodness, rightness and benign intent. You conceive yourself to be doing “God’s will”, of performing the duties made necessary by your unavoidable destiny to transform the world into your own image.

This ultra-positive vision is hugely seductive within a nation used to having a history of development second to none, of being a powerhouse of economic success based primarily on individual self-reliance and ingenuity, of positive thinking and hard work using the plentiful resources gained by exploiting every available source.

By thinking yourselves blessed by extraordinary capabilities rather than easy access to resources by comparison with most of the world a false sense of personal exceptionalism joins with that created at elite level described above.

With these concepts underpinning almost every aspect of life deeply interwoven into its accepted-as-real mythologies of pioneer daring, ingenuity, bravery and God-fearing decency almost the entire nation becomes imbued with the notion of being singularly exceptional.

With all this in place so much else also falls into place.

Multiple interventions in Latin America, coups, assassinations, endless manipulations... all justified by the very best of motivations as seen through the lens of the mythologies above.

Waging war in Korea and in Vietnam using all means deemed necessary.

Waging war by one means or another against Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Yemen, Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Venezuela.

Instigating coups within Europe such as Ukraine and

Seeking to undermine multiple governments worldwide by use of whatever means and methods come to hand.

Each and every act of sabotage, torture, kidnap, destabilization, assassination, mass murder, mayhem, destruction, violent attack and invasion is all covered and completely sanitized by the unquestioned belief in the self-asserted manifest destiny and duty of the United States to deliver its unquestioned, exceptionally perfect self to the rest of the world.  

While this self-unquestioned belief in this mission of duty to the world is in progress an attack of almost unbelievable proportions is perpetrated. It is perpetrated upon what you unquestionably believe is the most perfect nation on Earth with the most exemplary of all systems, people, motivations and destiny ever seen in the entire history of the world.

Do you then look anew at what the consequences of your past actions have been with the consideration possibly emerging that some of that which you predicated your actions on were false and that what has just happened has resulted in part from them?

No. You do not. You assert that the atrocity that has just occurred was due to the perpetrators being jealous of those perfections of freedom and democracy your mind has been persuaded to take on as absolute truths. No suspicion that any kind of artificial indoctrination has taken place will be suspected for a moment. All areas of the exceptional myth will instead be reinforced to an absolute solidity of protective shielding totally impermeable to reason or inquiry. The collective view of almost all within the nation scans 100% in an outward direction and not one iota is directed inward, especially among those in elite political positions.

Now the previous unquestioned acts which in part resulted in the atrocity inflicted upon the nation become the foundation for an even more unquestioned norm. It generates a license to use all possible methodologies and permit no barrier of any kind whether moral or ethical to subsequent acts in defense, to do whatever it takes to protect the nobility of the nation and its people so evilly attacked.

You become capable of absolutely anything, able to justify anything, and to feel 100% totally justified and entitled to be completely immune to any charges of wrongdoing.

You can use terrorists as proxies. You can kidnap individuals at will and render them secret locations. There you can have them tortured. You can use all possible means to undermine and destabilize other nations. You can surveil your entire population and the entire population of the planet if you wish. You can assassinate whoever you wish using drones. You can act without any recourse to diplomacy or international law. You can murder, subvert, slander, destroy and create unlimited misery while remaining utterly sure your every act is justified and needful in order to bring your belief system to the fore and have every aspect of it and the systems it cherishes to the world for its unmitigated benefit.

This is what you can do, what humanity is capable of when belief totally overcomes reality and totalitarianism is conceived to be liberalism.

This is the predictable consequence of  utterly myopic concepts of geopolitical cause and effect which cause an absolute intolerance for diversity. This state of mindless belief delivers the tragic irony of loss of life, freedom, dignity and sovereignty for others due to a USA asserting it is acting to engender them as exceptional attributes of its own perfect self.
