(When the global Ponzi scheme ends.)
This is what it will come down to if hyper-capitalism continues unabated. Its tendency to do so seems inevitable.
When the upwardly mobile pathway hits a logjam, with its gatekeepers demanding ever more excessive fees to reach the remaining exclusive locations, many hopes will evaporate.
What will remain?
Ersatz entertainments.
Vicarious vacations of the mind, sensual internet plug-ins of your choice, chemically-induced alternate existences.
Of any native culture? Nothing remains.
The mall is now almost all... for most.
In 20 years or 200 when a spectrum of grey stretches to the horizon and only the super-rich can afford to travel.
What then?
An elite world catered to by slaves will inevitably emerge.
The billionaires and millionaires recreate a Victorian era for themselves, luxury zones only certain humans may enter, i.e. the hyper-elites and their super-tested slaves.
Just as the native population of most “under-developed” nations have little to no access to their own beaches so you and your offspring will be denied access to the remaining “goodies” this world has to offer.
Enough super-rich will take up every hyper-expensive location year round.
You get the crumbs they don’t want to make do with. Count yourself lucky if your neighborhood has a tree or two. Be content to plug yourself in to the V-T-V, your SurroundScreen or WallScreen and lose yourself for the hours your gig-work ditches you to indulge in unpaid “freedom”.
Don’t think of the last million good lives being lived by others.
Don’t think of how they are passed on to one another as the aristocrats of old passed down their “goodies” to one another, keeping it all among the “best” families.
Don’t think of how it’s sewn up and the ladder you once thought existed to a better place has been hauled up out of sight.
Don’t think of your future as a slave to the hyper-rich or that of your children if you can afford any.
Don’t think of how you are stuck on an endless treadmill going nowhere.
In fact it is best if you don’t think at all...
