A foray into the realms of western mainstream news is a journey into an alternate universe, one where black is transformed to white and fantastical victories are conjured from thin air.
This of course relates specifically to any area of geopolitical conflict where western powers have national interests involved.
If it is deemed necessary to get behind wars for the sake of western interests then western mass media will generally do so and any atrocities committed by western forces will be “mistakes”. When another force opposes western goals then that force will in general be deemed fair game for a total lack of impartiality from western mass media and its acts will be portrayed as semi-evil in character having little to no justification for them.
This is very obviously, more obviously than ever before the approach regarding the crisis/war in Ukraine. The jingoistic and gung-ho quality of BBC reporting in general, largely mirrored across the entire panoply of western mass media news outlets is quite something to behold. The complete lack of equanimity regarding approach is staggering and equates to every one of these broadcasters being a fully signed up arm of western state foreign policy.
No regard is paid to historical facts regarding the Ukraine crisis in most cases, all that is seen in enthusiastic support for the side that western powers have promoted. This in complete disregard of what used to be standard journalistic principles. The late Robert Fisk exemplified these and on his death it was noted how very much the ethos within news broadcasting in either the press or televisual media had changed. His praises only very grudgingly sung were very faint reward for an illustrious career in which Fisk had determinedly held onto his principles and integrity fearlessly telling the truth no matter which side it offended.
The sorry state of western journalism, if it can still be called such these days, is obvious. Bias, prejudice and slavish adherence to western state agendas, narratives, talking points and briefings is clear, continual and all-pervasive… that is in terms of geopolitical issues where western states have an abiding interest.
It is a sign of how all elites, especially those within the political and media spheres have conjoined to fight the battle for western hegemony together since 9/11. That even changed journalism forever making presstitutes out of perhaps idealistic young men and women who began their careers with the very best instincts regarding fearless reporting of the truth come what may. Having an employer who by openly stated rules of conduct or by inference steers them into delivering what is wanted by them rather than what is desperately needed by readers and viewers (i.e. clarity and a high degree of neutral insight on momentous events) has brought virtually all “journalists” in the western mainstream to this new low.
And so we have the two main protagonists in the current war for the USA and UK governments who have been in war mode along with their state officials since 9/11, CNN and the BBC. Examples of how NOT to do journalism, or in effect how to AVOID doing journalism.
