Russia will win against the western powers in Ukraine. There can be no doubt about this now. The big question remaining however, is what will the West do when this becomes clear to all?
That Russia is winning and will win in Ukraine against the West is beyond dispute, at least among those who have been independently studying and analysing the situation without input from any mass media source. In virtually every battlefield direction Russia is bringing its vastly greater resources to bear and the inevitable outcome is beyond question. Any danger that Zelensky’s interminable requests for more or this, that or the other will have any effect are non-existent at this stage.
Having said the above, it is highly unlikely that the western powers will drop their insistent rhetorical support for Zelensky and the now defunct concept of a Ukrainian victory. While still in power (though no longer legal president of Ukraine) Zelensky will continue with the same now extremely redundant rhetoric also. Neither he nor his sponsors can afford to end the fantasies they are weaving. To do so would only bring their inevitable humiliation up to present time and there is nothing whatsoever in that prospect they would like.
The conflict then is set to continue, even though it is quite clear who is winning and who will continue to win. Every day now some thousand or more Ukrainian troops leave the battlefield, either in body bags/or left to rot where they lie, or to be sent to the rear grievously injured. (Recent reports have shown levels of dead and wounded on a daily basis even rising above 2,000.) Despite this horrendous toll of misery for Ukrainians now dragged forcibly to the battlegrounds and despite those poor souls receiving almost no training, destined only to die, the needs of western sponsors have foremost priority. (The average length of time new conscripts were expected to survive has been estimated at around four hours.)
The West cannot be seen to lose this conflict with Russia. Far too much is at stake for that to be contemplated. Therefore all the rhetorical idiocies MUST be repeated endlessly even though the entire world may see through them. The facade of confidence and determination cannot be allowed to be lowered even by an inch. All talking heads must read from the same hymn sheet with no expectations daring to even infer everything is not going precisely to plan. Lies must pour in waterfall proportions to maintain the fantasy of the Ukrainian regime (variously described as ‘democratic’ and engaged in an ‘unprovoked’ invasion) ploughing on to an eventual victory valiantly supported by the West.
Russia of course cannot allow itself to be defeated in its conflict with the West via Ukraine. To allow NATO to squat on its doorstep armed to the teeth for all time to come is simply and totally unacceptable. Unwilling to engage in an invasion for the best part of a decade Russia was eventually maneuvered by the West into doing so. Through Minsk Russia sought a way through to peace. Merkel and Poroshenko have revealed that they never had any intention to allow this. So, we have Russia’s special military operation which WILL win out against the full force of the West doing all it can to stop it.
So what happens when it finally becomes completely clear that Russia has won and the Ukrainian army in a state of total collapse surrenders and demonstrates for all the world to see a total unwillingness to continue a useless war against an unbeatable opponent? What will the western powers do at that moment when all is lost? That is the big question and reason for the title of this commentary. Will the western powers simply move on and cease talking about Ukraine and the situation there as they did after Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya? Or, if, as I believe, concerning Ukraine there is some extra special and vitally important factor related to their project against Russia and later China that they cannot let go, what then?
The scenario above, soon to appear in all its clarity is the scenario where the greatest danger lies. In the face of utter humiliation and the stymying of their vital plans for Russia and China, something that is anathema to them and which simply CANNOT be allowed to stand… what then? What nth degree insanity might be contemplated by them at that crucial juncture where all they planned, projected, determined, propagandised and lied about for so long, fails utterly? Each imagination among us can speculate on what might then transpire.
