The end of the Ukraine war is approaching and with it will come
all manner of finger-pointing, blame-gaming and of course... a waterfall
of lies.
As the conflict in Ukraine is ever more clearly seen to result in a
Russian victory over all the West could throw at it, western elites are
already preparing their excuses, and ultimately, their most convincing
lies. In the media goldfish bowl of the West this litany of distortion
will blunt most of the shock and outrage expressed. Having got away with
the deaths of hundreds of thousands across their previous wars of
choice in recent times they know how to perform this trick.
We will be told (as western audiences were after the debacle of the
Vietnam war) that we would have won if only we had done this, that or
the other. Or if this, that or the other had been done right, or at the
right time in the right place. This barrage of obfuscation will no doubt
largely dispense enough media fog to blur the edges of the Ukrainian
debacle. Naturally there will be no question of anyone owning up to any
guilt over the matter. Perhaps a little bit of blame-gaming will take
place however.
Joe Biden appears to be the most likely prospective fall guy. If
only he had provided Ukraine with more earlier in the conflict. If only
he had allowed NATO to fire missiles deep into Russia (saying all the
while of course that the Ukrainians did it). If only he had not been so
timorous but had been willing to risk nuclear war. (Of course those
criticizing him won’t mention this latter factor, only that Russia
should have been hit hard regardless of all such unnamed potentialities.
The statements made will emphasize as many half-truths as possible in
as convincing a style as possible. Ah, if only…
The armchair generals of the media along with the serried ranks of
online know-it-alls will be out in force. This should have been done.
That should have been done. He's to blame… no he is… perhaps him.
Zelensky will get his share of brickbats of course though most ire will
be directed at Biden for his pusillanimous, mouse-like temerity. Those
somewhat in the know however, will point to Zelensky having far more
interest in preserving himself than the Ukrainian people or nations.
Mortally afraid of the vicious and unforgiving nature of Ukraine’s
ultranationalists he knew he had to keep talking up victory and
maintaining an utterly useless resistance, pouring ever more poor
Ukrainian souls into the Russian meat grinder. All for
self-preservation.
No doubt Zelensky was right about the various ultranationalist
brigades such as AZOV. They, in their terminally nationalistic fervor
and utterly delusional mania to fight to the very last, would have taken
it exceedingly badly if Zelensky had thrown in the towel at any point.
They would certainly, as it is said, have had his guts for garters if he
had shown the slightest sign of wavering. So, hundreds of thousands of
hapless Ukrainians essentially had to die to keep one man alive. This is
the sorriest and most disreputable part of the entire lamentable saga.
But without doubt, having taken the thing right to its bitter end with
the Russians at the gate Zelensky will seize his moment and pop off to
some villa in a secluded spot around the world to write his best selling
memoirs.
So it will end. In fierce acrimony with vitriol spilled in momentous
quantities. The blaming, shaming and regret will fill the headlines and
political statements for a while, several days in fact, perhaps a week.
Then radio silence will descend. As it has with Afghanistan. As it has
with Iraq. And Syria. And Libya. So it will be with Ukraine. The
Ukrainians will be left to stew in the poisonous juices left as yet
another western proxy war dies. Left in penury with just a few empty
promises of western state aid for rebuilding in their ears and some
offers of slave wages from various western conglomerates who will hover
like vultures seeking lower expenses and higher profits. A nation that
showed much promise in the years before the western elites decided it
needed to be assisted to destroy itself.
For how long now can we in the West look on (or look away) quietly tolerating all the evils done in our name?
It must surely be clear to most now that western politicians are fomenting ever more wars in a last ditch attempt to win back their fast declining ability to dominate our planet. Whether they truly believe in their statements espousing a noble quest to bring freedom, human rights and democracy to all, or their actions are purely self-interested, the fact is their incessant aggressive use of diverse means of attack on other nations is now proving counterproductive.
The limit to which populations round the world, for whatever reason, ignore the belligerent and destructive tactics of the West to maintain its domination over others is now being regularly breached. The genocidal war the Israeli elites are waging against the Palestinians and now the Lebanese and Iranians, staunchly supported by the West may well be the last straw. The reputation of the West for subversion of targeted states and its insistence on using violence in pursuit of its aims appears to have blackened the name of the USA and its allies to an even greater degree than before.
The long list of western military attacks upon weaker states, the covert dirty wars waged by the CIA and its counterparts across the West and the general untrustworthiness of western governments in respect of their “diplomatic” tactics make the western allies the greatest threat to world peace. This fact has been obvious for a good half century and more, yet a mass media kow-towing constantly to western political elites have provided an effective shield of conditioning keeping western populations virtually blind to this fact.
Now however, the stark evidence of the West fomenting discord and violence in its own self-interest has been revealed for all to see. Driving the Ukrainians to fight and die for its geopolitical ambition to re-establish itself as the dominant world power, assisting the Nazi-like Netanyahu to perpetrate mass murder in Gaza and in general seeking to destabilize multiple nations and regions worldwide all in its own interest has opened the eyes of the world to its iniquity. It is unlikely that those eyes can be made to close as in the past by the conditioning efforts of western mass media. The ugly beast beneath the false mask of pretended sanctity has been revealed and can no longer be concealed.
That millions have been enjoined to ignore what has gone on in the West by modern day versions of the distractions used in the past, those of ‘Bread and circuses’ is unsurprising and has worked extremely effectively during the past decade or two when western nations have busied themselves with mass murder and destruction in the Middle East. Most people would much rather be distracted by pleasurable activities than directed toward excruciatingly horrifying events… even if they are told they are fully justified by a litany of lies from politicians and their media whores. It’s just human nature and it suits western nations well.
Again however, the lid has come completely off Pandora’s box. What is seen now cannot be unseen. The slaughter of tens of thousands of Palestinian children can hardly be easily consigned to some memory hole. The awful reality stares us right in the face nightly that those politicians we see being questioned ever so politely on our TV screens are mass murderers and complicit in acts of mass murder that cannot easily be excused as they might have been before. If millions have not been shocked awake by current realities in Ukraine and Palestine then we must expect that they never will be. I am confident however, that the present shock and awfulness of western acts of violence perpetrated through their Israeli and Ukrainian proxies will instead have the desired effect.
The populations of the nations of the western world who have acted in complicity with the world’s foremost terrorist nation, the United States in the events of mass murder, both in the past and present times, with a clear-eyed focus must now act to drag the monsters leading them from power. Some talk of ‘The Zelensky Curse’ that has begun this process. This will, with any luck, be joined by ‘The Netanyahu Curse’. Western populations we must hope are now fully awake to the evils that have been perpetrated by their political elites due to the evils they are committing on a daily basis in the present. It is time they were all swept away in a purge of all the hawks, warmongers, neocons and other mental savages that have led us for far too long now. It is finally time to sweep all the rot away… and finally begin anew.
Vladimir Putin has a great many elite detractors in the West. What do his fiercest critics say of him and why are their views the only ones found reflected in western mainstream media?
It cannot have escaped anyone’s notice reading this that the western political and media elite mindset regarding Vladimir Putin is wholly negative. This commentary will not attempt a rebuttal of the views held by such people but merely try to enumerate what they are and why they may be so pervasive within this very large group of leaders and commentators.
It may be that the anti-Putin mindset began before 2007 when the vast majority of statements, articles, videos and books appeared that took a negative view of the man. However, from the year 2000 when he became president to early 2007 when he gave a certain speech at the Munich Security Conference there was no sign at all of anything negative, in fact Putin appeared to be widely accepted during these years with a statement of approval by George W. Bush and a state visit to Britain including a visit by him and his wife to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen.
From 2007 onward Putin was subjected to virtually every accusation under the sun, depicted as a despot, a dictator and even as a thief and murderer.
So, what was special about his 2007 speech that appears to have changed the perceptions of so many elite figures from that time to this?
In his 2007 speech Putin was at pains to point out that the Russian state would work hand in hand with western states on the problems that affected them both such as nuclear proliferation and international terrorism. So far so good. However, he also used his address to most of the West’s most important figures who were delegates to the conference, to express his dismay at how one region of the world, i.e. the West was initiating wars that had led to destabilization in those areas it had chosen to target. In addition he said that Russia would maintain its own position on areas of concern rather than automatically fall into line with whatever happened to be the current western agenda.
It would be best at this point if you listened to Putin’s speech in full if you have not already done so in an attempt to understand why it angered so many delegates to the conference and, it seems, to have totally and radically changed the way Putin was to be viewed from that point on. As I have said, it was from this speech in Munich that the avalanche of negativity was to pour down on Putin’s head and attitudes to Russia and its government were to radically alter also.
As I say, perhaps anti-Putin feeling was also strong in certain quarters even before his 2007 speech but it appears to have been extremely muted. The floodgates of criticism, warning and accusation only opened after 2007.
Now I’d like to examine what Putin’s critics say of him.
It would be difficult to find a limit to the criticisms expressed, though they fall into certain categories which I will try to enumerate below:
Putin is a murderer.
This claim is based upon the demise of certain prominent critics of Putin and the apparent attempts, some successful, to poison them and others perceived as a threat to Putin or the Russian state.
Putin is a dictator.
Putin’s critics point to the overwhelming advantage he has during election periods when Russian media is very much weighted in his favor.
Putin is ruthless.
This relates to the two points above and to his continuance of the war in Chechnya and his instigation of the invasion of Ukraine. It relates also to assertions that if Putin is allowed to win in Ukraine he will then turn his attention to other ‘democratic’ nations and invade them also.
Putin is corrupt and a thief.
Claims have been made that Putin has enriched himself at the expense of the Russian people and has enabled others close to him to similarly enrich themselves.
Putin is a war criminal.
This is based upon Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and personally upon what they assert was Putin’s instruction to remove to Russia children in the Ukrainian war zone. In this respect Putin has been indicted to face charges by the International Criminal Court.
Putin then, is seen by his western critics as no better than a ruthless criminal who has no democratic right to lead the Russian state, a state they regard as having a complete absence of anything approaching an acceptable electoral system. What is more, they assert that Russia is a threat to western democracy and western democracies, that its system of governance merits the label regime, rather than government. In short, that both Putin and those who hold the positions of state power in Russia, are illegitimate and require removal and replacement.
Due to the views held by critics of Putin they see him as a great danger to the western world. They visualize Russia under Putin threatening all democratic nations, at least in Europe. They even consider that this is Putin’s direct intention as well as, or better said perhaps, through the creation of a restored Soviet Union. He is seen as despotic, willing to crush all opposition to his power in order to retain his ability to suppress and murder others while aggrandizing himself, a dictator who stifles freedom and denies human rights to his citizens. All in all he is regarded as the most pernicious of all world leaders of the present day who must be opposed and fought at all costs.
Western mainstream media is essentially composed of institutions that now closely identify themselves as an integral part of the western elite superstructure. The days when investigative journalists identified themselves as non-establishment rebels willing to criticize western elite institutions, especially those concerned with foreign policy, are over, at least in terms of having their work published within the mainstream. Therefore, these days mainstream news outlets such as CNN and the UK’s Guardian newspaper are essentially stenographers for those who disseminate and promulgate state narratives.
Those who criticize Putin and the Russian state are very welcome then within the elite mainstream “news” outlets. Critics of Putin such as the prominent commentator Anne Applebaum cleave strongly to the same views as expressed by the West’s political leadership. And also to the views of any and all opposition forces to Putin within Russia. In her view and in the view of critics like her, Vladimir Putin is a product of the KGB, is therefore absolutely ruthless, a man seeking to recreate the Soviet Union who is essentially evil with no redeemable qualities whatsoever.
I won’t, as I said at the outset, attempt a rebuttal of the assertions the anti-Putin people make above but I will allow myself a few comments that express some of my views on this general topic:
The world as it stands now has an immense problem. The political and mainstream media elites of the western world, have totally fixed and utterly negative views on Vladimir Putin. They constantly talk to each other and to anyone willing to listen (and there are very many within western media willing to do this) in a completely impervious bubble within the realms of which Putin is an absolute monster, a dictator leading a murderous regime with not a single redeeming quality. They have convinced themselves of this and have no chink in their convictions that could let anything in that might potentially counter this view. They believe only the politicians of the West have what it takes to run things well, to discipline nations and governments they regard as dubious or downright evil that in their view require elimination and replacement.
While their quest to mold the world in their image has been going on, nations such as China and Russia have risen with much power behind them. This only drives these neocons even wilder and even more entrenched in their view that ALL opposition to western rule MUST be eliminated.
These factors mean that unless by hook or by crook these western elites are removed from their positions of power we are looking at war, war and ever more war. Only the arrival of a full-blooded multipolar world that results in the quarantining of such people through a gradual process of their power diminishing, can we avoid the disaster that is likely to befall the vast majority of the world's population one way or another.
The pivotal point on which the critics of what they call autocratic regimes stand is that in the West we have full democracy. This is the justification they use for involving themselves in nations far from their borders with very different histories and cultures from their own. This is the justification, along with the use of factors such as “freedom” and “human rights” that they use to mount wars and instigate subversive movements with the nations they target as being illegitimate.
Democracy in the western world however, tends to be a ritualistic event to provide sanction to one of two (these days) quite similar political parties to rule in semi-dictatorial fashion for four or so years, does it any more reflect anything approaching the wishes of the people participating in it? And, havn’t we found that these parties have similar foreign policies and that the strong tendency is for them to seek even greater interference abroad if not outright war?
Elections across Europe are reflecting the popularity of what has been categorized by establishment political and media entities as ‘far right’ parties. This trend continues with the so-called far right ‘Freedom Party’ gaining the highest percentage of votes in Austria. As in France however it will be other parties of the center and center left who will maintain power there.
Anti-establishment feeling is clearly growing across Europe. Centralized control by the European Union from Brussels is increasingly resented. That the established EU powers in Brussels clearly bow to instructions from Washington is adding to the discontent.
The economic prospects of Europe in general have been put on a downward trajectory by the decisions made in Brussels, prompted by those made in Washington in regard to Russia. While prices rise, wages stagnate. Industry declines and jobs are lost.
So, how beneficial will the crusading activities of those such as Anne Applebaum be if they continue to be given full reign across the western world? Will they eventuate in what for them would be the ideal world where all nations reflect the democratic process as found in the West? Or, will we instead merely have ever more war as the western elites continue to force other nations with other ways of living their lives, to accept what we find best for us?
The house of cards the USA built upon the genocide of its native population, exploitation of Africa for slaves, and the plunder of the rest of the world for resources is tottering, ready to fall.
All attempts by the West to interfere globally from this point on will cause resistance to the abuse of its power to grow. No matter what the West does now in acting out the fixed mindset developed over the years of its domination, the consequences of their actions can only speed its fall.
These western gamblers with the world’s fate are no longer welcome within the noxious casino they built. There will be no more doubling down with threats and violence to maintain its position. The West, nearing bankruptcy, has a credit rating regarding its power and influence that has all but expired.
Those such as Lindsey Graham, advocating a steady march toward Armageddon as the best way forward will not be permitted for much longer to have their way. Such people care nothing for how many die for their ambitions to be realized. Their rabid desire for more and ever more can never be assuaged. But a new, multipolar world is emerging that is destined to neutralize such people and to deny any future power to any who would wish to emulate them.
All the monstrous denizens of the global casino the West created will have no choice but to enter real world as opposed to that of their insane schemes. There they will find themselves past their sell-by date, completely unable any longer to project their noxious ambitions. The assistants to such warmongering politicians, the corporate, media, think tank and military facilitators who sought to pave the way for global interference, will find their power expiring with them.
What’s left of the native population of the USA, virtually genocided out of existence; those wrenched from their homes in Africa, kidnapped and abused as slaves; along with the millions exploited during both the U.S. and British empires, will finally have the justice they have long deserved. The West must then seek its place in the world other than through threats and acts of violence used in aggressive self-interest. A restoration of global balance will bring it into quarantine until it is fit company for the rest of humanity.
The era of overweening western power and influence of the past is ending. Though it may still attempt to wield its remaining power, the entire world now sees its incipient impotence and is reassured by it. What was once a gargantuan monster able to shake the world and command it to obey, is now visibly shrinking in power and influence. Its leaders have shrunk in brain capacity to match this decline, mental pygmies increasingly ruling a dying empire that lashes out in its death throes.
The concept of American exceptionalism and that of British superiority will in future no longer be quoted as justification for their past abuses. A new and better future will sweep away all such self-justifying rhetoric. A multipolar world where sovereignty is respected as sacrosanct is emerging. Nations opposing domination by the West will no longer be subdued due to its fast fading power.
The growing resistance and strength of unity among those formally threatened and exploited by the West will ultimately be seen to bring about a level of multipolarity where the western house of cards can no longer stand.
There is a certain inevitability in the descent of the West. It could almost be said to be in its DNA; its unavoidable karmic "reward" for all its crimes.
The two Ukrainian regimes that followed in the wake of the US-supported insurrection in Kiev in 2014 have brought their country to the brink of destruction. Prodded on by the USA and its allies the Ukrainian people, who once lived in peace despite using different languages and having different geopolitical affiliations have been torn apart. This could not have occurred without western insistence that an opportunity must be taken to weaken Russia. It has been this desire to maintain western dominance in the face of the rise of others and the subsequent decision to use war as a means to achieve this that has brought us here.
The mania of western elites to always be top dogs on our planet and their inability to accept that this ambition is fast slipping from them has directly led to a world now predisposed to be always at war.
It is manifest destiny they say in the corridors of power in Washington that they are the warders, guardians and world police. Only they have the power and influence to achieve the full spectrum dominance required to govern with global reach. It is their destiny, they will say, their duty, responsibility and solemn requirement to engage the rest of the world and transform it for its own good. But what good do we see emerging from this overweening and constant desire to interfere worldwide? Can anyone honestly say they see the light at the end of this pitch black tunnel of unending western ambition?
Afghanistan went wrong after twenty years of ‘feel good’ reports sent back to Washington by military commanders who dared not speak of the truth. Iraq, left to its own devices after one mistake after another by the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ now wants all western forces out. Libya now looks toward the east and the BRICS, not toward the West. Saudi Arabia, the West’s great ally in the Middle East is now in BRICS. Even Turkey, a supposedly stalwart NATO member is approaching BRICS with a view to joining along with a host of others.
The world is turning against the shrinking western coalition of braggarts and bullies who have held sway for so long now. Now we see the backlash that has been building year on year as western dominance brought nothing but fears, threat, criminality and state terrorism and, ultimately, the inevitability of a forever war actively perpetually sought by western neocon maniacs. No sane man or woman could ever support this. All it needed for the backlash to occur was the rise of those the USA and its allies now seek to destroy.
Russia led the way against the warmongering juggernaut of the West. In 2007 in Munich Vladimir Putin described in detail how the era of the West getting its own way and commanding others with threats that they better follow, were over. He laid down a marker that will always be remembered as the starting point for the revolt against the West that, if we all work for it, will lead inevitably to a multipolar world.
China, is the backstop nation that, with its economic power, allows the others to finally revolt against the West and dare to reject it and its array of bribes, threats and criminal violence. Without China Russia could not stand against the West and others along with Russia would continue to be exploited and bullied into submission.
Russia’s special military operation against the Ukrainian regime is now poised to show the entire world that the West not only can be resisted, it can be beaten. The final nails are being hammered into the coffin of western hegemony in Ukraine. The last vestiges of its brutal abuse of power will now be seen to dissipate, through its defeat in Ukraine and its coming defeat in the Middle East.
Humiliation is something the West is used to foisting on others through the vast historical abuses it has perpetrated. Now humiliation is coming home to those who meted it out for centuries. With the triumph of Russia and the defeat of Israel, with the political demise of every pro-war leader in Europe, with the collapse of NATO and the continuing rise of nations opposing western hegemony, the West will be utterly humiliated, weakened and ultimately quarantined, no longer able to abuse the remaining power left to it.
The West’s defeat in Ukraine will be complete. Russia, strengthened on all fronts, from its economy to its increasing number of partners, to its social cohesion and military strength will arrive in a place of unsurmountable glory… just as the entire West meets deindustrialization and social collapse. A just end to a sordid period in world history where a native population suffered genocide, where millions were enslaved and used as unpaid labor, where entire nations were enslaved as colonial acquisitions and where all was attempted to be imprisoned within a western military vice.
There will be no going back. Russia’s victory in Ukraine will be such a heavy blow that it will ensure this is so. The defeat of Israel and the triumph of the Palestinians along with Iran will land the final blows.
It could all have been very different. However, the impulse to enslave, exploit, threaten, abuse and use the most violent methods possible is endemic to the West. It’s leaders have no ability to relieve themselves of the vicious and malignant habits of their forebears. It is now deep in their DNA. They are incapable of change. Which is why we, and the Ukrainians, are where we are now.
When the confines of what you can say & who you can support are being regulated by states that say they want to spread freedom & democracy around the world, what does that tell you about them?
You can see how it is going. The biggest liars we are aware of want to tell us what is a right opinion and what is a wrong one. They want to teach us that there is only one way of looking at things, that is their “right way”. If you disagree then you are automatically wrong and, quite likely bad. They wish to stipulate what is good and what is bad and if you don’t agree with what they say then there will be consequences. Who are these people who I am saying are the biggest liars we know of. Why our politicians of course.
The long well-known history of political malpractice is hardly a secret. Arguably, apart from the possible exception of insurance (and, in earlier times, snake oil) salesmen politicians have the worst rep concerning being, shall we say, economical with the truth? But take a look at the UK for a gaze into the shape of things to come. Not content with the already extremely prevalent cancel culture regarding impermissible views, you can now get extradited to your home country from the UK if you happen to have a contrary opinion to the current state narrative.
You will have observed the trend in recent years, even decades where not having the “right” point of view can get you into a helluva lot of trouble. Increasingly you have had to watch what you say. It started around three decades ago with certain movements that demanded you be politically correct, not laugh at certain jokes, not make certain remarks and not be too traditional in your actions, especially where women were concerned. Until men got used to the new rules there was a lot of confusion and awkwardness. After this period a sizeable proportion of men moved ever closely to being less obviously manly.
Never before had amorphous ‘society’ had more impact on the individual. We began watching ourselves more closely after being encouraged to be self-critical. Perhaps you will feel this introversion was healthy and that it was not before time that some men changed their attitude toward women and started to not be as boorish, as chauvinistic or abusive. You would have a point. However, the process of society bearing down on the individual to mold him or her to conform rather than be free to be themselves and speak for themselves continued inexorably down recent decades. Until we finally reached our current, supposedly ‘woke’ age where any number of pitfalls await the unwary.
The ‘You must nots’ have increased exponentially since the Sixties. Few reading this will be old enough to remember that time of great license where ‘letting it all hang out’ was ‘in’ and being a rebel or anti-hero was also very much the in way to be. You dressed as you liked and told it ‘as it was’. You could be whoever you wanted to be and feel free to speak your mind without fear or favor. Following the rules, wearing the ‘right’ kind of accepted and acceptable clothes, doing the ‘right’ thing at all times and obeying authority was for the ‘straights’ the names given to conformists of that time. We relished our freedom to live and think freely, to have opinions totally without fear of them getting us into trouble.
Now, if you think something that’s different to the state-sanctified view and deign to express your views on that subject it could be said you are looking for trouble. On the subjects of Russia and Ukraine for example. There is only one acceptable view to have on Russia according to the politicians of Westminster, Washington or Brussels. It is composed of various shades of black, most of them very black indeed. And on Ukraine there is another that Westminster, Washington and Brussels insist must be white. This holds true even when the evidence before your eyes contradicts these stipulations. Nothing good Russia does can be acknowledged, approved, acknowledged or spoken of. Regarding Ukraine, nothing it does that is bad can be acknowledged, disapproved of, acknowledged or spoken of.
Of course it is not only western politicians who provide the schemata for what is good (Ukraine) and what is bad (Russia). As you will surely have observed, western mass media provides this same schemata of mandatory attitudes, statements and “truths”. This is ‘the way it is’, these are the facts. Anything else is Russian propaganda, even if you have never come across ‘Russian propaganda’ what you are saying is still Russian propaganda or a Russian propaganda talking point. It is not okay to have an opinion on that. There is a ‘truth’ as spoken by those politicians who we know lie so much more often than they are capable of expressing a simple fact. Though geopolitical issues are ALWAYS riven by complications and all kinds of nuanced factors… for the politicians and mass media it can all be reduced to stark black and white, good on this side, evil on the other.
