A massive number of jobs are going to simply disappear as consumption hits a dwindling spiral composed of business failures, bankruptcies, foreclosures, fear of spending and sheer inability to spend on anything but vital necessities.
As spending collapses so will even more businesses, big and small. And so the spiral downward continues. Each negative factor joining and increasing the power of a black nexus downward.
Those economies most dependent on people buying articles they don’t absolutely need but are made to want through long-developed psychological techniques and peer pressure will be hit hardest.
Those economies which are closest to their traditional roots whereby they can survive to a large extent on what they and their neighbouring states can grow and where the people live lives closer to the poverty line will be hit the least.
Capitalism may well be in its death throes. At least the capitalism which wants populations to believe everything from here on out will be stable and so you can safely spend your hard-earned money on luxuries you don’t absolutely need.
Socialist economies where agriculture and living on the fundamental basics of life and within a social environment that is relatively high in solidarity will be much more likely to prosper in future. In such societies where the leadership is trusted to give direction in a pandemic people will more likely unite and survive.
The opposite effect is being seen in the USA currently where a plethora of voices, within government and outside it communicate a wide variety of mutually exclusive and often diametrically opposed messages to its population.
The western war on central planning where an almost anything goes if it makes money or feels good policy is pursued are going into meltdown due to the levels of confusion and confused mixed messages which prevail in so-called “free societies”.
In a world where threats of enormous magnitude such as climate change and pandemics such as the coronavirus pandemic are what we are facing as a species central planning and socialist policies cannot be avoided without huge risks being taken.
Only in a fantasy world looked after by an all-powerful deity where everything is in control and where safety is ensured can the attitude that everyone should do as they like within the law be a realistic and responsible option.
There is no all-powerful deity looking after our world and making everything safe.
The consequences of our individual, corporate and state policies and actions and those of Mother Nature are the only forces at work here.
The sooner we understand this at the deepest core of our collective being the better.
And the more likely we are to collectively survive.
