They set out to change the world and succeeded.
They took what was relatively stable and undermined it.
It doesn’t matter who they were or why they did it, it was done... and we live with the consequences now.
Those consequences will live with successive generations, an unstable, festering sore at the heart of the world, a source of terminally negative chain reaction despoiling any hope of unity.
The parallel in social mythology is the nursery rhyme ‘Humpty Dumpty’:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.
The original version is perhaps even more apposite:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
Threescore men and threescore more,
Cannot place Humpty Dumpty as he was before.
Those three score men and threescore more were imbued with massive amounts of hubris.
‘Hubris describes a personality quality of extreme or foolish pride or dangerous overconfidence, often in combination with arrogance. Arrogance comes from the Latin 'adrogare' meaning feeling a right to demand certain attitudes and behaviors from other people. According to studies, hubris and arrogance are related to the need for victory (even if it doesn't always mean winning) instead of reconciliation. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own competence, accomplishments or capabilities.’ (Wikipedia)
The power of these men and women was enormous and the destruction they caused was therefore relatively easy to effect. No code of conduct or stabilizing institution was allowed to stand in their way.
International law was bypassed along with the United Nations.
These forces which were meant to underpin stability and prevent destabilizing war proved incapable of preventing the determination of those who believed they knew better than all those in past history who had worked so hard with such hard-won experience to create these restrictions to human hubris and iniquity and put them in place.
The rush to judgement and war after the events of 9/11 was swift. Afghanistan was the first to be attacked and invaded. A land that had suffered successive debilitating wars in preceding decades, an easy target for the creation of even more suffering than had gone before, more deaths, more destruction and the poison of instability injected into its already weakened arteries.
The men and women of infinite hubris then attacked and invaded Iraq poisoning its well of relative stability also.
Libya followed with a campaign of bombing that reached the heart of the land and fractured it permanently.
They continued with Syria, fomenting a process of steadily instigated chaos, carefully added to in ever way they could conceive. An entire theater of cynical pretense was entered into whereby the rhetoric used molded the minds of those back home to endlessly support the carnage they manipulated from above. Another nation was taken from relative stability to a black hole of devastation where endless horror predominated.
Currently Yemen constitutes the primary focus of these would be masters of our world. They assist their allies in crime, the Saudis to pummel the poorest of nations into a stone age of permanent suffering.
And yet more targets await treatment. China. Russia. Iran. Venezuela. Cuba. Nicaragua.
Some preliminary treatment is already being meted out. Tariffs. Sanctions. Economic and Humanitarian War. Propaganda campaigns. Financial Terrorism.
No lessons have been learned because these men and woman see no need to learn anything from these events perpetrated by them, they are immune to doubt. Their mission is bounded by total confidence in its sanctity, its noble purposes as seen by them and the group-thought boundaries which make its central tenets inviolate.
They undoubtedly consider it was all for the best, that it had to be, that there was no alternative. They could not tolerate what was and used their incredible power for destructive change to open Pandora’s Box. They did not simply open it, they exploded its structure, atomizing it for all time to come.
‘Pandora's box is an artifact in Greek mythology connected with the myth of Pandora in Hesiod's Works and Days. In modern times an idiom has grown from it meaning "Any source of great and unexpected troubles", or alternatively "A present which seems valuable but which in reality is a curse". (Wikipedia)
We live now with the consequences. Future generations will also.
Previous to this speeded “evolution” as perceived by these three score men and more, there was a discernible, if winding path toward a world that could conceivably become better in time. Keeping to that path required great care not to leave it. Institutions assisted us in keeping to that path, international law and the United Nations. All was undermined due to 9/11 and the prioritization of the interests and well being of the United States. The path we shared previously became owned only by a certain few and those certain few believed only they knew the right way forward and that their new rules and policies were appropriate and overruled everything put in place before.
The path now leads to a chasm of instability, of endless division, in-fighting, self-interested power plays and myriad forms of extremist thought and behavior, no longer to the extremely strenuous but ultimately rewarding uphill climb to a gradually more stable, equitable and civilized world.
The radical change of 9/11 ushered in the radical policies which followed.
“If the only tool you have is a hammer every problem has to look like a nail.”
(General Wesley Clark on US going to war in 7 countries in 5 years.)
The hammer of western elite regime change policy is still being wielded. The scandals regarding lies told to enable use of this hammer were completely ineffective in halting its use. The policy and the project continue. The certainty in the minds of those wielding that hammer remains constant. The protocols set in place after 9/11 remain in place, inviolate, immune to change, incapable of alternation, amendment or cancellation.
What was before is ended. Obliterated. A new history has begun and will be marked by the instability engendered by the few for the sake of the few.
All that was before has been swept away by three score men and more... and their ruinous project.
