The faction of the hard right in America named the Neoconservatives couldn’t believe the ‘Pear Harbor Event’ they needed so much presented itself on September 11th 2001.
Now they had all to play for.
These were not demons in human form. They truly believed in what they stood for, the imperative requirement for the USA to maintain its rightful and preeminent position as global arbiter of what should be... and what should not be.
They saw themselves as the ultimate guarantors of the path toward global freedom, democracy and western values which they honestly believed were second to none and to which all should aspire. And if they did not aspire to these values then they were outlaws in their eyes, alien to the natural law of decent men and women everywhere and ought to be overthrown and have others take their place.
I see no reason to disbelieve their intent. Of course, where mass death transpires and believable lies are used to initiate the attacks, wars and invasions that cause those deaths then we naturally tend to question the motives of those who initiate them.
After much soul-searching and intent observation I have come to the conclusion that the above is NOT the case. I have come to the conclusion that these men and women act out a sincere belief that their analysis is correct and that they are acting in the best interests of those alive now and the countless generations to come.
This makes the task of anyone wishing to counter their influence all the harder. If these were simply evil men and women who would see the error of their ways due to the catastrophic and murderous results of their activities this would present a much more hopeful scenario.
If their policies were seen to be wrong for the same reasons in the eyes of politicians holding the levers of power in later administrations this too would present a scenario where hope of their abandonment was possible.
But these men and women known as Neoconservatives are not, or are no longer since 9/11, outliers. In fact they were not truly ever outliers at all. They are part of a long lineage of Americans who saw the rule of the United States as the preeminent force for good in the world as a permanently active force righting wrongs and slaying the evil dragons that preyed on their fellow humans.
The turning point which sealed the present and ongoing scenario of forward U.S. presence in the world were the First and Second World Wars. Prior to the U.S. entry into the First World War the majority of Americans and their political elites were against involvement. However, eventually they did enter and a Rubicon was crossed which never saw their return.
The mythology now is that the United States of America is the beacon of justice, freedom and democracy for the world and as the world’s most wealthy and most powerful nation that it has a solemn duty and role to play in bringing all its own merits to every nation on every continent bar none.
This is the preeminent vision of the most elite men and women who hold any positions of political or military power of any kind in America.
It is these elites that will see continuation in the presidency of Joe Biden if and when he defeats the aberration that they consider is the presidency of Donald Trump.
Donald Trump deigned to question important facets of the primary myth regarding America’s place in the world. He questioned the forward and preemptive planning that made necessary the wars of choice of the last decade and a half. He questioned also America’s allies demanding they contribute more to NATO in a manner that was offensive to many. he even broached the idea of returning troops from Europe and the Middle East to the horror of all those elites committed to America’s constant forward presence in the world.
For the reasons above Joe Biden will be a war president, a hawk. He will align all allies facing outward with full U.S. support. He will personify the Neocon ideal, a man unquestioning of America’s role in the world and fully committed to supporting the allies that support that mission wherever they may be. He will be the spearhead facing all those outside “The Free World”, those who he will continually describe as “enemies”. He will not compromise. he will engage in no dialogue. No hand of peace will be offered. Only the conditions under which they will bow to U.S. power will be communicated.
However... and it is a bid however... all this will be a fruitless exercise. No nation will bow of its own free will to the menace of western might. New powers have risen to stand by those threatened in this way, China by far the greatest of them. Iran will not buckle. Syria, having been to Hell and back will certainly not either. Russia, being led by one of the most resolute leaders ever seen on the planet, Vladimir Putin, will not either.
The USA will continue to bear down on smaller, weaker nations however. Under Biden Cuba and Nicaragua will be added to Venezuela as targets for overwhelming pressure via attacks on their financial underpinning and their economic systems in general. Interference will be raised to new levels through pressure on their Latin American neighbors. These pressure will encompass very real blackmail on nations such as Argentina where the left has a strong power base. Other nations in the region will comply without such blackmail. This scenario will be given a heroic and wholly innocent-sounding name.
Will Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua break? I doubt it. Each will have visualized countless times what their fate would be if they did so. Such a horror could NEVER be countenanced.
The new Neocon establishment, in fact simply the continuation of ‘America Preeminent’ will stop at nothing in the new ‘Ice Cold War’ of zero diplomacy and constant aggression and all the nations comprising the ‘Coalition of the Unwilling’ will be tested like never before.
But... it is in my estimation that none of them will falter in their determination to remain free of the fate that Biden and all the elites around him believe would be in their best interests.
The dreams of the Neocons will be confounded by the hard realities imbued within sovereign nations who simply will not buckle no matter HOW much pressure is applied.
