The original concept and goal of socialism as applied in the Soviet Union and allied Warsaw Pact nations was to replace the 'us and them' milieu that existed to that point where autocrats and their symbiotically-related hierarchy of facilitators arranged things to their benefit and the working class merely saw to their needs.
The idea was that everyone would have the fundamental basics of a decent life.
Everyone in those socialist nations had a job and could build a life on that knowledge.
Those with the skills and resources could build a house, children be raised and schooled knowing there was a predictable economic future for them just as they had themselves. There was a future with prospects for the basics of life awaiting them too.
Everyone had a home of one kind or another. Education was free and you could study subjects that interested you in particular such as studying how to play a musical instrument or follow any other vocation you wished free of charge.
Medical care was free and you could attend a health spa free of charge (or at extremely low cost) if your doctor saw some benefit in it for you.
There were incentives for productive work.
You had access to hotels in other countries within the Warsaw pact where tourist facilities were readily available.
TV programs were not all boring tractors as sometimes inferred, there was dance, music, entertainments of all kinds, plays, films and in addition much more education on television in general than seen now, especially for children.
Violence was not seen on TV though the physical body and its depiction was not frowned on. Plays on TV depicted real life rather than fantasy. All in all culture was emphasized over other aspects and all in an atmosphere of humanity, always emphasizing peace.
Each town had a cultural center where folk dance and other cultural pursuits were offered and displayed.
The U.S. elites along with every other western nation worked through their politicians, MSM and intelligence agencies every moment 24/7 to undermine the socialist states I describe above.
Those within those states who were discontented, disaffected, ambitious for more, criminal, or otherwise alienated from the project to provide for all, were contacted whenever possible by western intelligence agencies who infiltrated propaganda to them. They were motivated by the West it to rebel in diverse ways. That is not to say that there were not decent people who wanted a better future for their families that consisted of more than the basics-plus that the authorities in these states could manage. But the entire enterprise was meant to be communal, everyone agreeing to have a little or a lot less than in the West so that everyone could have a minimum standard and hope for more.
The goal was to eventually raise each economy to match the West. Naturally this was not going to be possible quickly and due to this factor for a minority plus the notion that all would be perfect across in the West the pressure by this minority (and it WAS a minority) grew as the modern era approached and freedom and the right to have all you wanted overcame earlier unity.
Plus of course there indeed were inherent problems involving aspects involving motivation, ambition and a degree of corruption dependent on getting what you needed based on who you knew.
It was perhaps a doomed experiment from the start, however the fact is that it began and continued for quite some time as a highly idealistic one where the people did work together despite enormous difficulties at times for the good of all and a decent, brighter future for all coming generations
The fact is that any information you have received in the West on all this described the only worst excesses, aspects and most problematic features of these socialist states within this most idealistic of experiments.
I don't think anyone could honestly say that anything approaching this idealistic dream and its ultimate goal of a decent life for all is looking like coming true for the adults or children of the West under the kind of ultra-capitalism that is clearly favored there. The American Dream has become a sick joke, if not a complete nightmare. Jobs are going to become extremely scarce in future, A.I. will take away an estimated 85 million jobs over the next five to ten years. The only possibility of gaining the basics of life now in the West, let alone the ‘good life’ of ‘having it all’, is a universal basic income.
Other than a UBI resolving the overwhelming problems the West will face I predict people will start looking anew at the great socialist experiment, research it honestly and fully and come to realize that the West and its intelligence agencies lied about it in almost every respect.
At that point I am sure a profound regret will be felt that it was so cynically, cruelly and ultimately, irresponsibly, undermined and the possibility of a decent life for all snatched away never to fully return.
