In the (by comparison with many) affluent West there is a subliminal sense of rightness, of being blessed by a perhaps god-given level of inherent superiority. In general westerners are unable to fully shake off the subconscious feeling that they are exceptional, somehow better than those ‘others’ ‘over there’. Blind to the significant degree of criminality, exploitation and abuse of others’ rights that assisted in the growth of their wealth and privileged status it becomes easy to associate the success of their societies with their democratic political system. However, as these societies see the sources of their wealth drain away as the nations they helped impoverish (in Africa for instance) rise to object, how will their democratic system stand up to the subsequent fallout? The French are being kicked out of Africa. The people of Niger, who the French have been exploiting for years have just kicked out of power the despotic family that has run Niger as their fiefdom since the Sixties. The Uranium which the French use to light their streets has just been raised in price to its true market price, up massively from the extremely low rate France was paying for it. In nation after Nation from Burkina Faso to Mali the colonial powers are being ejected as Africa begins to turn its back on and eject the colonial powers of the West that have exploited her for so long now. Adding massively to the West’s woes in much more significant terms is its suicidal decision end of the flow of cheap oil and natural gas from Russia. In this one fatal step every nation in Europe is now deep within an economic crisis with inflation remaining high, and both recession and stagflation beckoning. In homes across Europe the pips are beginning to squeak, belts tighten and family budgets veer inexorably toward debt, bankruptcy and home foreclosure. This was all done on the pretext that Russia had committed one of the ultimate sins that only western powers had an inalienable right to, to invade another nation. That it was the West that inexorably pushed Russia into this by barring the road to a peaceful outcome is an unmentionable fact however. Europe committed economic suicide then put the full blame on Russia and in so doing placed an insurmountable barrier of lies in place to stop any return to normality. So how is this all playing out in reference to democracy, that holy system that is supposed to yield only good results for all and sundry and in perpetuity? Having recently returned from Belarus and in recent times having ventured to both Russia and China we have seen what the long-term holding of power can do for nations in terms of a consistent focus on improving conditions. In all three nations we see a cleanliness, a general decency and high standard across a great many areas important to individuals and families in general. Good roads, well-maintained buildings, order on the streets, a high level of public diligence and appearance, levels of satisfaction and contentment regarding standards of life and living that are becoming a distant memory in the West. All this without the so-called benefits of democracy. In what the western political elites and media call the democratic system we can see the dubious merits of systems pushed and pulled this way and that by various factions with diverse policies within the usual two main parties. Lobby groups add to the melee where everyone fights for a different cause while outside on the street the everyday man and woman of the West see standards fall and infrastructure collapse. Costs are seen to rise, sometimes inexorably to exorbitant levels. Health care can easily bankrupt you in the USA and being rendered homeless has become commonplace. Next time you are on YouTube or TikTok check out what sinks of depravity can result from the democratic processes that are lauded as the epitome of good governance. Seek a video or two on the subjects of tent cities or opioid addicts. Then check out those depicting cities where democracy is not the holy cow it is deemed in the West. Take a look at Minsk in Belarus, or Kanzan in Russia. Pick a town or city at random in either nation, or in China. The results of those comparisons will speak for themselves. It has been easy until now for westerners to believe they have the best of all worlds. The growing affluence seen in the West from the Fifties onward unsurprisingly fueled a belief in its political systems, all democratic. This seemingly unstoppable rise in general affluence and buying power was matched however by a general deterioration in social behaviour, more crime, corruption and dissatisfaction with authority. This rebellious nature and non-conformity to previous standards seeped ever-deeper into all western nations and is now arguably at its peak. The maintenance of ethical and moral standards and of traditions such as the nuclear family and keeping to a high level of integrity are generally abandoned or are at least far rarer than before. Meanwhile, if you still have a few savings left you might make a trip to one of those ‘authoritarian’ countries you have heard of, perhaps Belarus, Russia or China. If you do you may be forgiven for thinking you have travelled in a time machine rather than by plane into an era of standards and behaviour, general decency, safety and order where traditional family values and ethical conduct not seen in the West since the Fifties. So how will westerners see democracy when things crumble even further? How will these ‘great societies’ look when criminality, drug addiction, corporate and political corruption and general anarchy of all kinds soar grow as ever-worsening and seemingly insurmountable plagues that impact almost everywhere without any hope of order being restored? And how then will those shining, spotlessly clean, well-ordered and rather noble ‘authoritarian’ ‘dictatorships’ look then? Extremely attractive in almost every possible way is the answer and for good reason. They knew when they were well off, with leaders that had one task and one task only, to care for their people and for their land, ensuring traditional, tried and tested values were maintained, that there was security due to good order always being maintained. For now, the mantra of ‘Democracy is best!’ still resonates. While the drift downward has only recently begun and general hardship is still somewhat manageable it will continue to hold sway for a while yet. But as the rot sinks deeper, as criminality rises, as the drug-infestation spreads, as joblessness and unaffordability of basic necessities rises, as infrastructure further crumbles and as the West’s politicians are exposed ever more obviously as unable to do anything about any of it there will come a time when more and more western citizens ask the following question: DEMOCRACY OR A PERMANENTLY DEDICATED AUTHORITY, WHICH DELIVERS THE BEST SOCIETY?
